Union Cabinet Approves Landmark Electoral Reforms: One Nation, One Election.

In a significant series of decisions, the Union Cabinet, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a range of transformative initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, empowering tribal communities, and advancing India’s position in the space sector.
Electoral Reforms: One Nation, One Election.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Cabinet has accepted the recommendations of the High-Level Committee on “One Nation One Election.” This move is expected to streamline the electoral process, ensuring cleaner and more financially efficient elections, thereby promoting economic growth through better resource allocation.
Support for Farmers
Recognizing the vital role of agriculture in India’s economy, the Cabinet approved the “Nutrient Based Subsidy Scheme” with a financial outlay of Rs. 24,475 crore. This scheme aims to provide phosphatic and potassic fertilizers to farmers at subsidized rates, encouraging balanced fertilizer use and supporting farmers’ incomes.
Furthermore, the “PM Annadata Aay Sanrakshan Abhiyan (PM-AASHA)” was approved with an investment of Rs. 35,000 crore. This initiative aims to stabilize prices for farmers’ produce and reduce price volatility in essential commodities, thereby enhancing self-reliance in the production of pulses, oilseeds, and horticulture.
Empowering Tribal Communities.
Amit Shah highlighted the government’s commitment to tribal empowerment, announcing the approval of the “Pradhan Mantri Janjati Unnat Gram Abhiyan” with a budget of Rs. 79,156 crore. This program aims to provide 100% access to basic amenities in 63,000 tribal villages, benefiting approximately 5 crore tribal individuals. The initiative focuses on enhancing infrastructure, education, and healthcare services in these communities.
Advancements in Media and Biotechnology.
The establishment of a National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) is set to revolutionize the media and entertainment sector. This initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen India’s global cultural influence.
Additionally, a Biotechnology Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development scheme was approved, designed to foster innovation and entrepreneurship within the biotechnology sector.
Space Ambitions: Game-Changing Projects Approved.
In a significant boost to India’s space endeavors, the Cabinet approved four major projects, including the Chandrayaan 4 Mission and the Venus Orbiter Mission, which aim to deepen our understanding of the Moon and Venus. The Bharatiya Antariksh Station (BAS) is envisioned to enhance the Gaganyaan program, reinforcing India’s leadership in space exploration. The introduction of a Reusable Low-cost Next Generation Launch Vehicle (NGLV) is also anticipated to expedite India’s goals for lunar exploration by 2040.
