Government and Meta Launch “Scam se Bacho” Campaign to Combat Online Scams in India.
New Delhi:
In a significant step to enhance digital safety, the Indian government, in collaboration with Meta, has launched the “Scam se Bacho” National User Awareness Campaign. The initiative aims to combat the increasing threat of online scams and cyber frauds, aligning with the government’s commitment to improve cyber safety.
During the launch event, Sanjay Jaju, Secretary of Information and Broadcasting, emphasized that this campaign represents a whole-of-government approach to fostering a culture of digital vigilance. “It is a timely and much-needed step toward safeguarding our citizens from the growing threat of online scams,” he stated.
With over 900 million internet users, India has seen remarkable digital growth through the Digital India initiative. However, this progress has coincided with a surge in cyber fraud, with 1.1 million cases reported in 2023. Recognizing this challenge, the Prime Minister has called for stronger measures to enhance digital literacy and safety.
Jaju highlighted that the “Scam se Bacho” campaign is not merely an awareness initiative but aims to empower citizens with the tools and knowledge necessary to protect themselves from cyber threats. He expressed confidence that leveraging Meta’s global expertise will enable every Indian to safeguard their digital presence effectively.
The campaign brings together key ministries, including the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, reflecting a united front against online scams.
