Rs. 85 Crore Allocated for State-of-the-Art MRI Machines at IGMC, Tanda, and Nerchowk medical colleges: CM Sukhu.

Shimla:

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced recently that the state government has allocated Rs. 85 crore for the procurement of advanced 3-Tesla MRI machines, which will be installed at the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla, Tanda Medical College, and Nerchowk Medical College. The 3-Tesla MRI machines, known for their precision and ability to offer in-depth diagnostic analysis, are expected to significantly enhance the accuracy of disease diagnoses and improve patient treatment outcomes.

CM Sukhu emphasized that this initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to improve healthcare facilities in the state. He revealed that the state government plans to invest Rs. 1,500 crore in the coming years to equip government health institutions with modern medical equipment. This investment is aimed at reducing the number of residents – approximately 9.5 lakh – who currently seek medical treatment outside the state, resulting in a GDP loss of Rs. 1,350 crore annually.

The Chief Minister also outlined plans to upgrade healthcare facilities at all levels. Community Health Centers (CHCs) will be equipped with semi-automatic laboratories, ultrasound machines, and ICU facilities. Moreover, civil and zonal hospitals will soon have fully-automatic auto-analyzers, digital X-rays, ultrasound machines, and modular operation theatres. This initiative, he stated, would not only ensure better healthcare but also provide accurate diagnostic support to doctors.

Criticizing the previous BJP government’s neglect of healthcare services, CM Sukhu said that this led to the deterioration of the health system, turning government institutions into referral hospitals. He assured the public that the Congress government was committed to transforming healthcare services and that positive changes would soon be visible.
